Push the boundaries and dive into a full weekend of Arctic discoveries! Just in 3 days, you will visit Barentsburg and remote historical sites in Svalbard.
Barentsburg, a Russian town in Svalbard where there are no bounds between the past and present, tradition and innovation. It’s a settlement with an operating coal mine that you can visit, and an outstanding husky kennel with many of the Northern sled dog breeds, where images of Amundsen’s polar expeditions will come to life right in front of you.
On the trip we'll follow the way of pioneers and real explorers of Svalbard - to a trappers' settlement from the XVIII century and the weather and radio station Isfjord Radio with an open view towards the Greenland Sea in the West.

About the tour:

Day 1. Longyearbyen – Todalen – Skiferdalen – Grøndalen – Barentsburg
The day starts at 09:00 in the morning when your guide will pick you up from your place of accommodation in Longyearbyen and bring you to the expedition center Russkiy Dom for a briefing on safety and snowmobile instructions, and equipment fitting. The adventure begins, and you will depart to Barentsburg, a coal mining settlement where you will live through the traditions of the locals and explore the variety the Arctic can offer.
Upon arrival, warm lunch is served in the hotel restaurant and then you will go for a guided tour around the town to hear the stories of then and now and will follow the historical way from Willem Barents' discoveries to the present-day on an excursion to the ArtArctic Gallery. To summarize the impressions of the day after the excursion you’ll head to the first brewery in Svalbard – Red Bear Bar to taste local beer and have dinner.

Day 2. Barentsburg – Linnevatnet – Isfjord Radio – Russekeila – Festningsodden – Barentsburg
After breakfast, there will be a snowmobile trip to follow the trails of the real pioneers and explorers of the Arctic to the remote weather and radio station Isfjord Radio constructed in the 1930s and the trappers' settling place of the XVIII century. Lunch in warm and cozy interiors. Upon arrival in Barentsburg, there will be options to make yourself a souvenir during a workshop in good old Russian traditions in the Handicraft Center or just enjoy the sauna in the hotel. In the evening, you will be able to choose and taste local cuisine specialties during an a-la-carte dinner in one of the restaurants (at extra cost) as well as local beer (included).

Day 3. Barentsburg – Colesdalen – Fardalen – Longyearbyen
This day there is an option to visit the mine of Barentsburg, an active coal mine where tours are allowed with a guide. After breakfast, there is an opportunity to visit Barentsburg Husky Center. You can even try yourself as a real musher and go dog sledding along the shore of Grønfjorden. You may also visit a souvenir shop and post office with interiors in the style of the XIX-XX centuries and send a postcard from the 78th parallel north.
After lunch in the restaurant, you will drive a snowmobile back to Longyearbyen and upon arrival, it is time to say goodbye and your guide will offer a transfer to your place of accommodation in Longyearbyen.
In Svalbard, weather conditions change quickly, so that is why for the safety and comfort of our guests, the tour program might be changed in regard to the itineraries and destinations.

A valid driver’s licence for a car or motorbike is required to drive a snowmobile. Remember to take it with you on the tour. The passenger do not need to have a driver’s licence.
