A beautiful common eider colony comes here to nest every year. The first eider ducks usually arrive from mid-May. The days pass, and more and more eiders come. Last year we counted around 600 nesting ducks, making this the 3rd biggest common eider colony on Svalbard. The last ducks usually leave around mid-July.
We invite you to share a delicious brunch meal while “bird watching” these amazing eider ducks.
We will share some knowledge and tell you how it all started. How did these birds end up here at the dog yard? Why do they come back every year? What is so interesting about this place?
Join us and you will be able to observe these birds from a closer distance (just enough to not disturb or scare them), taking as many pictures as you wish. Perhaps we may see an arctic fox trying to steal an egg?
Food will be served at our deck`s table, or if the weather isn’t the best, we may eat inside, at our cozy Turfer Hut around open fire.
