|Season (11 Aug 2019 - 30 Sept 2019)|
|Monday - Sunday||09:00||- 12:00|
In open Polarcirkel boats your guide will power towards the mighty Fuglefjella which now, in the autumn, seems empty without the thousands of birds that have occupied its walls during the summer. Even so, the cliffs are an impressive sight as they tower over the fjord - a vertical wall 500 metres high.
Those with interest in history should look forward to beach landings where we will look at remains from Svalbard`s fascinating coal mining past. In the years after John Munro Longyear started "Longyear City", many other nations took an interest in the area. Grumant, which lies in a ravine in the bird cliffs, is a Russian mining community that was abandoned in 1961. This trip will also visit Hiorthhamn, a Norwegian minin town that was last used in 1940.
Hot drinks will be served.
The route may change slightly depending on the weather conditions. We recommend that you dress well with gloves and hat, and waterproof mountain boots/wellies.
Includes transport from/to accommodation (not the camping site), floatable suit, coffee/tea and biscuits.
The boats are quite small and you may experience some bumpy sea and sea spray.
The safari is not recommended for people with back problems or pregnant women.
