About

On this trip we sail with the closed hybrid boat Kvitbjørn. This is a large and comfortable boat that is led by its own captain and with a guide on board. The boat is equipped with a hybrid engine solution, it is 14.9 meters long and very comfortable with modern solutions. The trip up to Ny-Ålesund normally takes about 4-5 hours, and we'll serve a meal and something to drink after arriving there.

We sail the boat out of Isfjorden, and after a couple of hours we are on our way north in Forlandssundet in the direction of Kvadehuken and Kongsfjorden. If the sea is calm and we have plenty of time, we may also stop at Poolepynten to look for walruses.

Ny-Ålesund is considered to be the northernmost settlement in the whole world. The town was originally established for coal mining, which was the main activity until 1962. After a major accident, the mine was closed and Ny-Ålesund has since been a base for important research.

Ny-Ålesund is also an important place for the history of the Norwegian polar expeditions. It was here that Roald Amundsen landed his airship "Norge" on his way to the North Pole in 1926. You can still see the high mast that the airship was moored to during his stay.

Participants must bring warm clothes as well as a hat and mittens as we will spend some time out on the deck.

Before the trip, you must sign a condition form / passenger list to participate in this activity. You can request to get the terms sent to you before the trip.

Please note that this is a long trip, the total distance traveled will be about 200 nautical miles and the trip takes around 11-12 hours.

Minimum age of participation: 14 years

Language
