After the walrus became a protected species in Svalbard, the population recovered well and has become quite a common sight. On this trip to Borebukta we might see the walruses in the water, hunting for food or on land, where they normally lay close together – or even on top of each other!
The boat trip from Longyearbyen to Borebukta normally takes about one hour. We will drive the boat “Kvitbjørn”. This is a brand new, closed hybrid boat with its own captain and a guide. The boat is 14.9 meters long and is very comfortable. It has a modern design and an innovative hybrid engine. We will use the electric motor when approaching wildlife and that will give us a unique experience, without disturbing.
As with all wild animals, we cannot guarantee that we will see walruses, but the chances are good.
Included in the trip:
- Transport from/to accommodation.
- Boat driver and guide with necessary safety equipment.
- Hot drinks and buns fresh from the bakery (cinnamon bun, etc.).
Participants must bring warm clothes, a hat, and mittens, as we will spend time out on the deck.
Minimum age of participation: 8 years
Language
Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give directions you understand. To participate on one of our excursions, it is required that you speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
