Experience Coal Miners’ Cabins – An affordable and authentic base in the arctic wilderness
At Coal Miners’ Cabins, you’ll stay amidst Svalbard’s mining history. When Mine 2 opened in the 1940s, several two-storey barracks were built to house the miners. Today, these historic barracks have been transformed into Coal Miners’ Cabins – with a much-improved standard, of course!
Accommodation:
The guest rooms are spread across three barracks.
Most rooms have shared bathrooms, though some room types feature private sinks or en-suite bathrooms.
Each barrack includes a shared kitchen and communal areas, offering facilities to cook, do laundry, and connect with fellow travellers from around the globe.

Make your stay hassle-free with our Coal Miners’ Dinner Offer. For just NOK 220 per person per day, you can enjoy a varied dinner when booking your stay.
A delightful mix of classic dishes and local specialities.
Dinner is served daily from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Our talented catering team curates a weekly menu, available at the hotel.
Bar and light meals:
The bar is open all day, serving beer and wine from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
You can also order light bites, including paninis, wraps, toast, and waffles.
