Svalbard Skimaraton is the world's northernmost touring race. It is a unique adventure that goes through wild Arctic nature with armed polar bear guards along the trail. Every year, locals and visitors gather for this beautiful event. The Svalbard Ski Marathon was first held in 1993, and is today the largest single event on Svalbard.
You can choose between full marathon and half marathon. All classes are in classic style. The trail varies from year to year, but one thing that can be guaranteed is a beautiful landscape and an experience you will never forget. The route has a height difference of approx. 400 meters above sea level, where changing weather and the danger of polar bears means that safety is given special attention. Patrolling polar bear guards on snowmobiles make the participation a special memory. It has also become a tradition for the Governor to inspect the entire trail by helicopter just before start. As they fly over the arena and give the go-ahead, the excitement is high and finally the adventure can start for the participants.
