Experience and see Longyearbyen at your own pace with a city bike!
At the Svalbard Tourist Information Office in the centre of Longyearbyen we rent out city bikes in the summer season in order to make it easier to both get around in town, but also in order to make it easier to explore Longyearbyen.
Our city bikes are financed through the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund and is meant to make it easier both for those who visits us and those who are locals to enjoy Longyearbyen in a sustainable manner.
But remember, outside the town limits of Longyearbyen it is recommended that one is accompanied by a local professional guide who can manage safety in the wild should one encounter a polar bear. For trips outside of Longyearbyen by bike we recommend joining an organised bike trip with a local activity provider. It's not allowed to bring the city bikes outside of the city boundaries of Longyearbyen.
Rental agreements for the bikes can be made at the front desk in the tourist information office in the upper part of the city centre main street.
If we've got available bikes you can just come by and we'll help you get a rental agreement in order.
In total we currently have 50 city bikes in our rental park, and a rental helmet is also included when renting one of our bikes.
Guests visiting Longyearbyen can rent a bike for a maximum of 3 days.
Local residents can also rent bikes, but only for 1 day per week.
The rental fee of the city bikes is 40,- NOK per day.
Opening hours as of June 2024: 10:00 to 17:00 all days (Monday-Sunday)
