10 principles for responsible marketing

– Keeping the Magic of Svalbard Alive (and why You Should Care)

Welcome to Svalbard – a place that doesn’t need filters or exaggerations to blow your mind. Everything here is real, from the polar bear that you might spot (from a safe distance, of course) to the northern lights dancing in the sky (when they feel like it). We’ve created 10 principles for how we market Svalbard – because we want your experience to be amazing, authentic and sustainable.

Why do this? Because we love this place just as much as you’re about to. But love also means responsibility: for nature, wildlife, and the people who call Svalbard home. So here are our principles as AI has interpreted them – with a wink and a touch of Arctic realism!

1. Laws and regulations – Yes, we’re serious.

We follow all the laws and regulations (even for marketing). This means all our photos and videos are legit – no stolen drone footage or illegal polar bear selfies here.

2. Content – No clickbait allowed!

Our marketing shows real experiences, not some "best thing you’ll never get to do." We set realistic expectations and remind you to use safety gear – trust us, you’ll want it.

3. Wildlife – Admire, don’t disturb.

Svalbard’s wildlife is unique, and we’d like to keep it that way. We don’t disturb animals, and we don’t use close-ups that make it seem like we’re cuddling an Arctic fox. Respect their space – polar bears didn’t sign up to be Instagram influencers.

4. Polar bears – Our fluffy ambassador.

Polar bears are amazing, but they’re not the only reason to visit. They are best experienced from a long distance, which is why we limit the use of close-up images of polar bears in our marketing.

5. Local communities – People actually live here.

Svalbard isn’t a theme park. Locals have their own lives, and we market the destination with respect. You’ll learn about their unique lifestyle without crashing their dinner table.

6. Cultural heritage – No souvenirs from history.

Our cultural heritage sites are sacred (okay, not sacred, but you get the idea). We tread carefully and take nothing home, and we promote responsible behavior around these historical treasures.

7. Northern lights – No guarantees, no raves.

The northern lights are magical, but we’re not promising a light show every night. Our photos are authentic, and we don’t photoshop in green skies that weren’t there. And remember: waiting is part of the game!

8. Exploration – Let the locals guide you.

We recommend joining organized tours with local guides who know what they’re doing. (PS: They’re the ones keeping you safe and ensuring the best experiences.) No marketing should encourage you to go full action hero on your own.

9. Climate messaging – No “before it’s gone” talk.

We’re not into doomsday tourism. You’re here to enjoy and learn about the beauty, not "grab one last selfie with a glacier." Climate change is serious business, not a sales pitch.

10. Partners – Same rules for everyone.

We try to make sure our partners follow these principles too. If they’re selling our experiences, they need to play by the rules – because it’s all about preserving Svalbard for future adventurers (including you).

So why should you care?

Because sustainability is about more than just recycling. It’s about experiencing the magic of Svalbard without harming what makes it special. We promise you real adventures – not because we’ve polished the truth, but because Svalbard is incredible just the way it is.

Welcome to an authentic Arctic adventure – no filters, but plenty of WOW!
