Join us on a trip to Nordenskiöld glacier! You will be taken far away from Longyearbyen and into the very heart of the Arctic landscape, to Nordenskiöld Lodge. Here, we will go mountain and glacier hiking, and kayak in front of the mighty glacier front.
Program:
Day 1
At 08:00 am, the guide will pick you up from your hotel. We will provide a detailed overview of today's schedule and conduct an important safety briefing before proceeding to the harbour. We will travel by boat over Isfjorden while we enjoy the view of the beautiful Arctic landscape.
Upon reaching Nordenskiöld Lodge, we will indulge in an outdoor lunch and acquaint ourselves with the cabin and its surroundings. Following lunch, we will venture out into the Arctic wilderness to discover the captivating beauty of this remote outpost. In the evening, we will return to the cabin for a delectable dinner and the opportunity to unwind in a pre-heated sauna. Accommodation in double rooms.
Day 2
Begin the day with a satisfying breakfast before leaving the comforts of Nordenskiöld Lodge for a kayaking adventure. Our reliable double kayaks will be used, and we will paddle in pairs. Kayaking offers an ideal means of exploration in the Arctic, allowing us to witness the magnificence of calving glacier fronts and the captivating shorelines. The specific destination for the day will be determined by weather conditions, sea conditions, and your kayaking proficiency. As we paddle alongside the awe-inspiring glacier front, surrounded by floating pieces of glacier ice, we may encounter curious wildlife. After a full day of kayaking in the chilly Arctic waters, you can look forward to the comforts of a warm sauna and a satisfying meal. Accommodation in double rooms.
Day 3
Today, we will embark on an expedition to the majestic Nordenskiöld Glacier. After breakfast, we will familiarize ourselves with the basic guidelines and safety precautions associated with glacier hiking. Our journey will take us to the heavily crevassed glacier, approximately 1.5 km from the cabin. Throughout the day, we will hike up and down the glacier, marvelling at its deep cracks and glistening surface. An expedition lunch will be enjoyed on the glacier itself. If weather permits, we may gather around a bonfire upon returning to the cabin, taking in the breath-taking fjord view. Enjoy our homemade dinner, before a well deserved nights sleep. Accommodation in double rooms.
Day 4
On the final day, you will awaken to the ever-changing sounds of the glacier, a truly special experience. Perhaps an extra cup of coffee after breakfast will allow you to savour the sight of the magnificent ice blue hues visible from the cabin. Following breakfast, it will be time to pack your belongings in preparation for the boat journey back to Longyearbyen. While leaving this remarkable place may be difficult, visitors return home with unforgettable memories. During our return to civilization, we will keep a watchful eye out for marine wildlife and the landscapes we pass. Vigilance is necessary during Arctic sea safaris, as wildlife can appear and disappear rapidly. In Billefjorden, we often encounter various whale species, and our experienced boat captains are adept at spotting them. Enjoy the return trip, as it serves as a fantastic conclusion to this exceptional adventure.
