Svalbardbutikken, located in the heart of Longyearbyen, is the northernmost department store in the world. In 1996, Svalbardbutikken became a member of Coop and became a separate cooperative, Coop Svalbard SA. We have more members than there are residents in Longyearbyen.

The store offers a wide range of groceries, fresh produce, tax-free cosmetics & electronics, gifts, souvenirs, and kiosk products. In Svalbardbutikken you will also find Svalbard’s only liquor store, Nordpolet.

Nordpolet has a rich assortment at tax-free prices. Visitors can freely buy wine at Nordpolet, but the purchase of spirits and beer requires travel documents in the form of a plane ticket. It is not allowed to seal goods bought at Nordpolet in Longyearbyen.

Our kiosk is located in the departure hall at Svalbard Airport. Here you can buy food and drink before departure, and souvenirs for yourself or those at home.

As the only grocery store in Longyearbyen, Svalbardbutikken is a natural meeting point for visitors and permanent residents. The store has approximately 50 employees from 13 nationalities.

We care about sustainability and circular economy. We encourage tourists to do as the locals do, bring your own shopping bag when you shop with us! Don't buy a plastic bag!
