Spring has reached Svalbard, and the bustling wildlife adds extra excitement to the boat trips during this season. We sail through Isfjorden towards Borebukta, an area known for its fantastic marine mammals that often gather along the ice edge or swim in the fjord.
It's May, and we are ready to explore Svalbard from a new perspective. The air is fresh at this time of year, but we have ensured that the comfort aboard our closed RIB boat is great. With ample space, warmth, a toilet, comfortable seats, and panoramic windows, the boat offers a comfortable way to experience nature and wildlife.
Borebukta is surrounded by majestic glaciers that create an impressive landscape. After leaving the harbor in Longyearbyen, we set course for Borebukta, with the main goal of exploring the walrus colony that has made the area their home in recent years. Along the way, depending on weather conditions and wildlife observations, the trip across Isfjorden takes about an hour.
Spring brings migratory birds to Svalbard, and we are fortunate to be in an area where we can observe seals, walruses, and a rich birdlife.
One of the highlights of the trip is observing the walruses. After being protected in Norway in 1952, the walrus population has significantly increased, and they have begun to return to their former gathering places, including Borebukta. These social animals thrive together and can often be seen along the ice edge or on the ice floes.
While enjoying nature, we will also have the opportunity to have lunch on board, while the guide shares stories about Svalbard and the wildlife that calls this area home.
