What’s On
There are several cultural events throughout the year here in Svalbard.
As an entrance to the dark season, we arrange the Dark Season Blues Festival in the end of October. In early February the PolarJazz Festival is held. Every year, during the first week of March, we arrange Solfestuka (Sun Festival Week) to celebrate the return of the sun.
In Svalbard you can also enjoy Arctic cuisine. Longyearbyen does not only have fine and premiered restaurants, you can also visit Taste Svalbard, the northernmost food festival in the world. At this festival, Svalbard's amazing history will be served through a number of cultural happenings related to local food and drink traditions.
Sundays and Wednesdays, there are movies at the cinema at Kulturhuset. Other cultural events in Longyearbyen include concerts, sport events etc. And on occasion, our local concert- and events organiser Walrus AS offer concerts in Longyearbyen throughout the year.
Visit Svalbard is a proud sponsor of several local events, and one of our criteria for sponsoring events is that they’ve been approved by FEE Norway as an environmentally approved event.
