There's plenty of fish in the Isfjord in Svalbard. The last few years, Longyearbyen has had an abundance of large cod during the late summer season and during the fall. The locals in Svalbard have been able to harvest these resources for a long time, and now it's finally your turn to go fishing in the Arctic! The area where we'll be fishing is just outside the city, and we'll use our sturdy speed boats to take us out there. You will get everything you need from us to go fishing - from fishing rods to immersion suits that will keep you safe, warm and dry.
Arctic sea fishing
The best fishing area is by Fuglefjellet – Bird mountain - and as the name reveals, you can spot thousands of eager birds in the cliffs over our fishing spot if it isn’t too late in the season. Those who catch fish will surely become popular with the always hungry gulls, puffins and fulmars who will flock around the boat hoping for a delicious fish head for lunch!
Local food for dinner
Both the birds and the fishermen will be able to enjoy the catch of the day - we will take the fresh fish to the chefs at Restaurant Nansen, where you can order it for dinner the same evening. The added price for this dinner is Kr. 295,-. Stories about how you pulled that 2 – 5 – 9 kg cod over board will be excellent entertainment for the evening’s dinner party. As we say in Norwegian - Skitt fiske!
- Transport to and from accommodation in Longyearbyen
- Floatation suit to use during the tour
- Hot drinks and biscuits
Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give directions in a language that you understand. To participate on one of our excursions, it is required that you speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
