Step beyond the ordinary and journey into the deep history of Svalbard. Hidden within the rugged moraine of the Longyearbreen glacier lies a treasure trove of 60-million-year-old plant fossils—and you are invited to join the search.
Starting from the historic outpost of Sverdrupbyen, we leave the modern world behind to traverse the raw, untouched beauty of the Arctic wilderness. This is an immersive, expert-led exploration where the pace is set for discovery. Scour the glacial debris for pristine, delicate leaf imprints preserved in stone—a tangible piece of history from when the Arctic was a lush, tropical paradise.
It is a perfect place to also cover a modern, mining history of Longyearbyen with a perfect view on the old mines.
After exploring the terrain, we’ll take a moment to pause, enjoy a warm drink, and reflect on our finds. It is a free souvenir. How many can you fit in your backpack?
