About

As our regular Northern Lights safari turns back toward Longyearbyen, we continue further into Adventdalen, far from artificial lights and deep into the polar night. When we find the best conditions, we watch for the unique daytime aurora, the stars, and the moon, while enjoying the calm around the fire pit and the magic that only the polar night can offer.

Far from Artificial Light
After a group briefing about today’s tour and snowmobile driving, we are ready to set off.
Through the darkened landscape, we travel together eastward. The polar night in Svalbard is a truly unique time.
The landscape covered in a deep blue and black darkness, where night and day blend into each other.
Far from artificial light, nature appears both raw and majestic, and the Arctic sky truly comes alive.

Along the way, we stop at historic sites to take a closer look and learn about our surroundings.
Keep your eyes open, perhaps we will encounter a Svalbard reindeer or see the Northern Lights dancing across the sky.

Wilderness Camp in the Polar Night
With the snowmobile season starting in December, driving conditions can change from day to day, but our goal on this tour is to travel as far as the conditions allow. Once we find a suitable spot in the wilderness, we set up our small camp and light the fire pit. In the heart of the polar night, we enjoy a warm expedition lunch.

In the darkness around us, it is quiet. Only the crackling of the fire breaks the calm as we share stories about Svalbard and life in the Arctic. Far from noise and artificial light, we truly feel the stillness that defines the winter landscape here.

After a good break and warming up by the fire, we return to the snowmobiles and head back toward Longyearbyen.
