By checking in to Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel, you are signing up for a stay in the heart of Svalbard. Soak in the breath-taking view of the Arctic landscape, and observe the wildlife casually wander past at your destination. Bordering Isfjord Radio is Kapp Linné bird sanctuary, and occasionally you can spot a cunning Arctic fox or polar bear hunting for bird eggs. Keep your eyes open, and perhaps you can cross of some of Svalbard’s “Big Five” from your bucket list.
2.30PM Pick up at your hotel/guesthouse in Longyearbyen.
3PM Departure with ISFJORD-EKSPRESSEN, with a steady course westward. The crossing takes about an hour, depending on the weather and your hosts will warmly welcome you upon arrival at Isfjord Radio.
5PM-6.30PM We invite you for a walk of the station, to share the fascinating history of this unique destination. Enjoy you afternoon exploring the library, jump in the ocean and warm up in the sauna, or simply enjoy the view and a nice drink in the living room.
8PM A 5-course dinner is served. Please advise if you have any food allergies that we need to keep in mind for the meals during the trip. Due to the remote location this is an important information for the chef’s meal preparation.
This morning you wake up to an unforgettable view. Enjoy your morning coffee or tea with a panoramic view of the Arctic ocean and Cape Linné bird sanctuary.
10AM-3PM After breakfast at 10AM we dress up in our warm boat suits and head out on the Arctic ocean in open polarcircle boat. Today’s adventure is ‘s heading for Barentsburg, an operative Russian mining town with around 400 inhabitants. Did you know that Svalbard’s one and only cat live here? 270 steps will lead you from the harbour to the main street of this distinct town with its colourful houses in a naked landscape. We enjoy lunch and study the town before heading back to Isfjord Radio in the afternoon.
5PM Return to Longyearbyen with ISFJORD-EKSPRESSEN.
Isfjord Radio is a wilderness hotel and to move outside you need a guide with rifle for polar bear protection.
In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms or thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planned route, and this might lead up us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program. We will always do our outmost to give our guests a great experience in the Arctic, but we must be aware that characteristics of the destination.
Please note that the minimum age to participate is 2 years old.
As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen's efforts to be climate neutral, we are adding a CO2 and environmental investment to our overnight trips. The amount is donated in its entirety to good projects that contribute to a sustainable future at our destinations.
- Accommodation in double room at Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel incl. breakfast and dinner.
- Station walk (day 1).
- Transport with ISFJORD-EKSPRESSEN incl. pickup at your hotel / guesthouse in Longyearbyen.
- Departure from Longyearbyen at 3PM.
- Return from Isfjord Radio at 5PM.
