On the windswept grounds of Kapp Linne, you can observe how the never setting midnight sun patrols the sky in almost uniform circles from April to August. Enjoy the view from the sauna on the cliff and refresh yourself with an Arctic sea bath at the rim of Svalbard’s west coast. The peaceful view at this place is observed by more fulmars than human beings, and you will be one of the lucky few experiencing the wildlife at Isfjord Radio this day.
Day 1
2.30PM Pick up at your hotel or guesthouse in Longyearbyen.
3PM Departure with ISFJORD-EKSPRESSEN. We head towards Isfjord Radio with a steady course westward. The crossing takes about an hour, based on current weather conditions. At arrival you will be warmly welcomes by your hosts for the next days.
5PM-6.30PM Join us for a walk of this historical radio station and learn the special history of the destination. Enjoy your afternoon by exploring the library, an Arctic spa or simply relax with a nice drink and the view from the living room window.
8PM We gather for a 5-course dinner. Please advise if you have any food allergies that we need to keep in mind. This is an important information for the chef’s meal preparation, due to the remote location.
Day 2
After a good night’s sleep, you will wake up to an unforgettable view. Enjoy your morning coffee or tea with a panoramic view of Mount Grieg, Cape Linné bird sanctuary and the Arctic ocean.
8AM-10AM Breakfast.
10AM-3PM From Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel at Kapp Linnè we embark on our Polarcirkle boat for a five-hour open RIB boat safari on the north side of Isfjorden. Our destinations are Trygghamna and Ymerbukta.
In Trygghamna we will meet the eye-catching landmark Alkhornet, a large bird mountain surrounded by a lush and beautiful landscape. Historically, Trygghamna is a known as a sheltered bay. This is where seamen found rest after a rough sailing in the Arctic seas. We continue our cruise to Ymerbukta, where the scenic Esmark glacier dives into the bay. As we float between small icebergs in the green glacial water you can hear the ice crackle.
8PM Enjoy your 5-course dinner.
Day 3
8AM-10AM Breakfast.
10AM-3PM Join your Isfjord Radio guide on one of our favourite tracks along the old radio poles of the station given three optional route and activity alternatives. The hike will be approximately 10-16 km long depending on route.
5PM Boat transfer with ISFJORD-EKSPRESSEN to Longyearbyen.
Note
Isfjord Radio is a wilderness hotel and there are regularly polar bears visiting at the hotel. To walk outside you need to be accompanied by a guide or host with polar bear protection.
Weather conditions can change quickly in Svalbard. We can meet heavy winds, snow- and rainstorms or thick fog. This means we might need to make changes to the planned route and program. It can lead to using a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program, or we may have to delay departure. We will always do our outmost to give you a great Svalbard-experience, at the same time we must be aware of the characteristics of the destination.
Please note that the minimum age to participate is 2 years old.
As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen's efforts to be climate neutral, we are adding a CO2 and environmental investment to our overnight trips. The amount is donated in its entirety to good projects that contribute to a sustainable future at our destinations.
