Season (8 Aug 2025 - 11 Aug 2025) |

Longing for real wilderness, deep silence, and unforgettable encounters with Arctic nature? This trek takes you through some of Svalbard’s most stunning and varied landscapes – from trundra valleys to remote coastlines and vast mountain plateaus.
We carry all we need in our backpacks and sleep in tents along the way. This journey gives you a sense of achievement, calm, and lasting memories.
Day 1: Endalen – Fardalen
After packing our gear and a short drive out of Longyearbyen, we begin our hike in Endalen. The first leg is a gentle 7 km through open terrain. In Fardalen, we set up camp and cook dinner together. Later, you might find yourself on your first polar bear watch – a quiet moment where you finally have the surrounding mountains all by yourself.
Day 2: Fardalen – Colesbukta
We head west through Colesdalen, an open, glacial valley shaped by water and ice. The river winds through the tundra, often visited by grazing reindeer. After roughly 15 km, the landscape opens towards the sea, and we reach the abandoned Russian mining settlement of Colesbukta. We set up camp by the shore and if time, explore the area a bit.
Day 3: Colesbukta – Grumant – Grumantbreen
Following the old coal railway along the coast, we enjoy wide views of the fjord. Eventually, we arrive at Grumant – now a ghost town, once dramatically built into the cliffs. From there, we turn inland and begin our ascent through Grumantdalen. This day offers real variation: about 14 km with 600 meters of elevation gain, ending with camp near the small Grumant Glacier.
Day 4: Fuglefjella – Bjørndalen – Longyearbyen
On our final day, we cross the high plateau of Fuglefjella. If the skies are clear, we’ll see sweeping views over Isfjorden and the surrounding peaks. Along the cliffs, seabirds like fulmars, kittiwakes, and little auks are nesting – and with a bit of luck, we might spot an Arctic fox. We make our way down into Bjørndalen, where transport will bring us back to Longyearbyen – tired, but full of stories and new experiences.
Is this you?
You enjoy long days of hiking in the mountains and are in good physical shape. All participants should be used to carrying their own backpack (15–20 kg). The total distance is approximately 50 km over four days. The terrain can be challenging – we hike across tundra, slopes, and rivers.
You are comfortable sleeping in a tent and are willing to take your turn on polar bear watch during the night.
Included in the price
Transport to and from your accommodation, all meals, tent accommodation, shared camp equipment, experienced guide with necessary safety gear, and search and rescue insurance.
Sleeping bag rental is available for NOK 600.
