What You Can Look Forward To: We start our hike from the cableway central and and the iconic cable towers that once transported coal from Longyeardalen to Hotellneset.
Along the way, we’ll take time to share stories about the town and the people who have shaped this unique place.
You’ll hear about John Munro Longyear’s time in Svalbard, and how Longyearbyen eventually became a part of Norway.
The trail includes some steep sections and is suitable for those with a normal level of fitness.
The tour is a nice walk and not very difficult. The tempo will be adjusted after everyone's fitness and level of agility, but we do recommend that you're in average physical shape.
Due to uneven and partly steep terrain the tour is not suitablle if you have limited mobility.
There are a lot of rocks, so it's wise to wear hiking shoes preferably with ankle support, and it’s recommended to bring a wind proof jacket.
Your base layer should be fleece or wool.
You’re going to get tracking poles and crampons if needed from us.
During the winter we will give you snowshoes and a headlight.
We do not recommend this tour for very young children, and advise that the child must be at least 8 years old to participate.
Pick-up and Drop-off at Your Hotel
Cookies and a hot drink are served.
Remember to wear sturdy hiking boots, a windproof jacket, a mid-layer, gloves, a hat, and bring a water bottle.
A small daypack with water and an extra layer of clothing is also recommended.
The hike is steep, but the view is worth the effort.
Cancellation Policy:
For cancellations made online by card, a 5% fee of the paid amount will be charged.
This only applies if the customer cancels, not if the organizer cancels.
For groups of 1-16 people:
Cancellations up to 22 days before the activity will receive a full refund (100%).
Cancellations between 22 and 8 days before the activity will receive a 50% refund.
Cancellations from 7 days before the activity start date and up to the start time will not be refunded.
Refunds:
No refunds will be given for changes to the route due to weather or ice conditions, illness, or flight delays. The safety of our customers is always our priority. We recommend travel insurance. Spitzbergen Adventures reserves the right to change departure times or cancel tours if there are too few participants, in accordance with the stated minimum.
All activities are at your own risk, and a certain level of risk must be expected. Spitzbergen Adventures and its partners accept no responsibility for injuries or accidents caused by circumstances beyond our control (force majeure).
