Why settle for just one perspective of Svalbard's history? This exclusive combo tour pairs a gentle tundra walk with a spectacular drive to some of the finest viewpoints overlooking Adventdalen.
Part 1: The Endalen Stroll (In the Footsteps of Mine 5)
We begin the day with an easy, flat walk along the valley floor of Endalen. Walking beneath the old wooden cableway towers, we get up close to the historic 1960s surface installations of Mine 5. On this peaceful stroll, we frequently spot wild Svalbard reindeer grazing against a backdrop of historic mining ruins.
Part 2: Panoramic Tour to Mines 6 & 7
After our walk, we head back to the vehicle and drive deeper into Adventdalen to begin our ascent:
- Mine 6: We pass the striking ruins perched on the mountainside, where your guide will share stories of the mine's significance to the post-war era until its closure in 1981.
- Mine 7: We drive all the way up to the mountain plateau to the region's final coal mine, providing a unique connection to the modern era.
- The Viewpoint: The ultimate photo stop! From here, you will enjoy raw, sweeping vistas across Adventdalen and the dramatic mountain peaks on the far side of the fjord.
