Visit our very nice lodge in the untouched, silent Tverrdalen surrounded by mountains and glaciers. The only way to get there in the summer is by foot. This trip provides a very special opportunity to experience the Svalbard wilderness in all its beauty in summer and autumn, joined by our friendly huskies.
Day 1: We pick you up at your accommodation in Longyearbyen and drive you to our husky kennel located 12 km outside Longyearbyen. Here we will inform you about the trip, equipment, and safety, pack our backpacks and meet our furry friends that will join us. We will hike through big valleys, cross small and larger rivers, and over mountain passes with a spectacular view before we reach our cozy and comfortable lodge. Our furry friends will relax outside and serve as polar bear guards, while we enjoy the evening in front of the fireplace with a good meal inside the lodge
Day 2: We enjoy the nearby surroundings with a light day backpack. Hiking on the glacier just behind our lodge, exploring the moraine area, searching for fossils or climbing a mountain top – all is in close reach. If we are lucky and patient, we can maybe spot a polar fox and we will for sure observe reindeers since they are numerous in this area. In evening, you can enjoy our sauna, read one of the many books we have available or just enjoy the view
Day 3: We leave the lodge after breakfast. We have good chances to spot reindeers and study the many Arctic flowers and plants.
Expected arrival at your accommodation in Longyearbyen is between 4 and 6 pm.
You should be in good to above average physical shape, and be able to carry a backpack of 6-8kg . Our huskies will help carry with their own backpacks so we can enjoy fresh food. We will hike about 15km on day 1 and 3, while the 2nd day we can be adjusted to the groups fitness and weather conditions.
The weather in the Arctic is unpredictable and can change within a few hours. With cold temperatures and wind the weather can be challenging.
Minimum age: 12 years. If younger contact us for a tailor-made family trip.
Included: Guide with necessary safety equipment, bed-clothing for the lodge, all meals, hiking sticks, light crampons for glacier-hike, and rescue guarantee for Svalbard are covered during the trip.
Important information: You will need your own travel insurance since our rescue insurance only cover rescue operations and not damage to personal equipment etc. Minimum number of participants is 2. In cases of only 1 participant the trip will be cancelled or completed with an additional fee.
Practical information: Solid hiking boots with good ancle support and wind-and water repellent outer clothing, hat and gloves. 30L backpack, drinking bottle for water (thermos with hot water we will provide).
