At Basecamp Explorer we offer a wide range of day trips, overnight trips and expeditions to our outposts far into the Arctic wilderness. Our passion is to arrange adventurous Svalbard experiences for our guests. Your experience with us will be more than travel – our goal is to contribute to sustainable development at our destinations by engaging in projects that benefits the environment, wildlife and local community.
Accommodation
Each basecamp in Svalbard has its own genuine style and design. From modern and inviting accommodation in a trapper’s style at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen, a comfortable cabin experience in the wilderness at Nordenskiöld Lodge, to a unique boutique hotel at Isfjord Radio.
We are happy to invite you in for a homemade meal at all our outposts. In collaboration with local hunters, our chefs and hosts offer Arctic tastings such as grouse, reindeer or self-harvested mushrooms and Arctic char.
Activities
Our overnight trips to our remote and unique basecamps will be the perfect starting point for experiencing the wild and pristine nature of Svalbard. Together with our experienced Arctic nature guides, you can choose among a variety of unique and unforgettable activities in Svalbard.
In wintertime, we drive snowmobiles, mush teams of dogs or go skiing. In summertime, we travel by boat, kayak or use our feet and explore by foot. The feeling of the midnight sun warming your face, the northern lights dancing over your head, or traveling through the blue hour, brings out an exclusive sense of freedom only found in the Arctic wilderness.
Trip planner
Throughout the year, we organize day trips and expeditions for individual travellers, and create tailor-made itineraries for companies, groups, and private events. Our main focus is to arrange overnight trips to our basecamps, but we also arrange day trips for small groups from Longyearbyen.

Responsible tourism
We make every endeavour towards reducing our ecological footprint and supporting sustainable destination development in Svalbard. We also add a CO2 and environmental investment to all our overnight trips in Svalbard. The investment is exclusively donated to help further development of nature and community projects in Masai Mara via Basecamp Foundation. This involves projects such as education for local youth, tree planting to preserve the ecosystem, purification of drinking water, recycling of waste and conservation of the Mara Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy nature reserve.
