About

Experience two of Longyearbyen’s most iconic highlights on a small-group Arctic adventure: the panoramic summit of Blomsterdalshøgda and the world-famous Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

With pickup from central Longyearbyen or directly from the cruise pier, this experience combines a rewarding mountain hike with an exterior visit to the Seed Vault. The order of the day is adapted by your guide according to weather, trail conditions, group pace and the best overall experience.

The hike follows scenic terrain in and around Blomsterdalen, leading steadily towards the 320-metre summit of Blomsterdalshøgda.
From the top, enjoy sweeping views across Longyearbyen, Adventfjorden, Isfjorden and the dramatic mountains of central Spitsbergen.
The route is approximately 4 km round trip with around 300 metres of elevation gain, suitable for guests with average physical fitness.

During the experience, you will also stop outside the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, one of the Arctic’s most recognisable landmarks.
Although the vault is not open to visitors, your guide will explain its purpose, its global importance, and why this mountain location was chosen to safeguard crop diversity for the future.

Along the way, hear stories about Longyearbyen’s coal-mining past, Arctic wildlife, the changing seasons, and daily life in the High Arctic.
You will also enjoy a warm drink and cookies in the Arctic landscape, with time for photographs and to take in the views.

The route and timing may be adjusted for weather, wind, snow or ice conditions.
This ensures that the day remains safe, comfortable and enjoyable while respecting the fragile Arctic environment.

What to bring:
Svalbard weather can change quickly, so warm, windproof and waterproof clothing is essential. We recommend dressing in layers and choosing wool closest to the skin whenever possible.
- Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots that cover the ankles
- Hiking trousers or softshell pants, plus waterproof shell trousers
- A windproof and waterproof jacket
- Thermal base layers and an insulating mid-layer
- Warm hiking socks
- A warm beanie and insulated mittens or gloves
- A filled water bottle

Depending on snow and trail conditions, we provide either snowshoes or microspikes.
During the polar-night period, a headlamp is also included.
