Longyearbyen: Bird cliffs boat safari on Isfjorden - Backyard Svalbard

About

This is where the Arctic’s greatest bird life exists and massive cliffs rise from the ocean.
We will also view the old ghost town of Grumant from the sea which is like frozen in time.

Our closed polar circle boat Alice will take you on this journey where the nature will dictate our path.
We will cruise up to the massive towering bird cliffs where thousands of seabirds like puffins and Brünnich’s guillemots nest, fly in the sky and create a mesmerizing spectacle.

We will keep our eyes locked on the water’s surface. If luck is on our side, Isfjorden might reveal a pod of beluga whales, curious seals or walruses resting near shore.

We will sail close to Svalbard’s history and feel the past come alive as we pass the abandoned Soviet mining settlement of Grumant. Old wooden structures stand frozen in time here and is now serving as a quiet backdrop for grazing wild reindeers and hunting arctic foxes.

Your safety is our priority, and you will be accompanied by a local Svalbard guide and captain who knows the fjord like the back of their hands. The polar circle boat Alice is a gamechanger for your wildlife safari on Isfjorden as you can step inside a warm, heated cabin while sailing and step outside on deck to have a 360 degree view when we stop. You get the best of both worlds: A front row seat to Svalbard’s rawest nature and enjoy the comfort while sailing.

Important information:
Language and Clothes
- You need to be able to speak and communicate in English due to safety reasons. If this is not possible, the passenger must be accompanied by someone who is fluent in one of these languages.
- For safety reasons, the route may change due to weather, wind and ice conditions.
- Please take your personal seaworthiness into consideration before booking as the boat may rock slightly depending on the weather conditions.
- We will do a full refund if the tour must be cancelled by us due to strong winds or adverse weather conditions.
