Join us for an amazing Arctic nature hike up the glacier of Larsbreen and descend with us deep inside the melting channels of this glacier.
We start our tour from Longyearbyen, where we will pick you up from your accommodation.
Depending on the snow conditions we will provide you with trekking poles, crampons or snowshoes (which you need to wear under your own shoes/boots).
Our hike will start uphill towards the glacier of Larsbreen where we reach the ice cave.
After a good hike uphill, which takes us approximately 1,5 hours, we will reach the entrance of the ice cave.
Along our way we will make sure to have enough stops to catch our breath and enjoy the incredible surroundings we are in!
We will put on our helmets and headlamps (which we both will provide) and we will descend into the cave to find our way through the different layers of ice.
These meltwater channels can date back for thousands of years!
Inside the cave we take our time to observe and experience this true Arctic nature phenomenon.
We enjoy the silence and the shelter of the ice cave whilst having warm expedition lunch and warm drinks.
After our visit we can enjoy a magnificent view over Longyearbyen and if we are lucky (only in the polar night) we might even see the Northern lights dancing in the sky.
This tour will take approximately 5 hrs and is about 6-8km with 400m elevation.
Included:
Our professional and dedicated guide, warm expedition lunch, hot drinks and sweets, rescue insurance, emergency and safety equipment, transfers to and from your accommodation.
What to bring:
We recommend to dress properly for Arctic weather conditions.
Our recommendations for this hike would be to wear: Sturdy waterproof hiking boots (above the ankle), (soft shell) hiking pants, shell pants and jacket (wind and waterproof), base layers, warm hiking socks, insulating mid-layer, warm hat (like a beanie), warm mittens/ gloves and a filled water bottle.
If you can, choose woolen materials closest to your body.
We recommend you to bring a backpack as you need to take some gear with you which you will get from us (spikes, helmet and a headlamp).
You will get snowshoes or microspikes from us to walk with (depending on the conditions).
Important to know:
If we need to adjust our planned route due to safety reasons, we hold the right to do so.
There is no reimbursement if we need to.
Pickup: at your accommodation around the time stated on your confirmation. Just wait if we are not there on time.
We pick up everyone at the same time, so we could be some minutes later.
We reserve the right to refuse you to join our activity, if you do not arrive properly prepared in terms of clothing when we pick you up.
Your safety is our main concern.
Make sure you are in normal physical shape, as this hike can be experienced as moderate demanding (all depending on conditions and weather). We need to walk upwards and some possible crawling inside the cave can be expected.

This experience is not suitable for children under the age of 10 years. All under 18 years old need to be accompanied by an adult.

If you need to adjust your booking, let us know. If available, we gladly guide you on another day of your preference. However, if you need to cancel please notify us in writing.
